2023 USC Marshall International Case Competition

The annual USC Marshall International Case Competition, presented by Oracle, returned this spring and ESI was tasked to cover the week-long event. Students from nineteen top-ranked international and U.S. business schools arrived early in the week. After they settled in, a welcoming dinner and networking opportunity was held at the USC Hotel and students were greeted by the USC Trojan Marching Band. Students had the opportunity to network and explore Los Angeles over the course of a few days and on Thursday they were given a business case study where they had 24 hours to research, analyze and prepare their presentations to a panel of judges. Preliminary rounds took place Friday morning and then final presentations were held the next day on Saturday.

The finalists presented in a forum at the Fertitta Hall. We setup our video control and three cameras, using the Newtek Tricaster Mini-SDI as our switcher and Panasonic CX350 and Sony FX9 for our cameras. The presentations were streamed live to family and friends around the globe.

Jimm and David capture interviews of students from each group.

In between presentations we asked students from each group to give us testimonials about their experience during the competition. Interviews and b-roll were captured using a Sony FX-3 on a DJI Ronin S3 gimbal stabilizer.

We also interviewed a few of the judges from the competition. They shared their experience as a judge and why case competitions like this one are so important for business students to grow and learn in a highly competitive real world scenario.

Later that evening, students and faculty attended the awards banquet where the top 3 winners were announced. This year’s winner of the coveted Marshall Cup was the University of Auckland.

Here’s the highlight video we produced that recaps the week-long event.
